Cloud Systems Engineer
Job description
Our e-commerce client is looking to expand their systems team, to tackle some of their strategic objectives by covering a broad selection of modern technologies, with an experienced Systems Engineer to work in some very exciting and challenging projects. This role will operate remotely with very occasional travel to the office.
As an experienced Systems Engineer, you are expected to apply your considerable knowledge, skills and experience in every aspect of systems development and support. This means taking ownership of the projects from the fundamental processes to the highly technical details. From a technical standpoint, they are expecting someone who is highly experienced with a broad range of technologies, specifically someone with strong cloud infrastructure skills and especially with Google Cloud Platform (GCP)
You’ll provide guidance to junior members of the team and can establish, foster, promote and monitor best practices in areas such as security, reliability, testing and review. You’ll collaborate with business users, project sponsors, stakeholders and colleagues both inside and outside of the department daily.
Specific Skills/Experience Required
The ideal candidate will have:
SRE
- A degree/HND in a computer science or engineering discipline (or significant relevant experience)
- 3+ years software development and testing experience
- A proven ability to manage own workload and deliver software projects
- An automation first mentality
- Strong experience in GCP environments, ideally with App Engine
- Good knowledge of Docker & Kubernetes
- Expert use of monitoring & tracing tools such as Stackdriver
- Experience with Atlasssian software, Jira and Confluence
- Experience with CI/CD such as Bitbucket / Git and Cloud Build
- Core skills in coding or scripting languages (e.g. Go, PHP, Bash)
- Excellent communication skills
- Linux and networking knowledge to support deployments and applications
- Passionate about Agile environments
- Database - MySQL, BigQuery
Infrastructure
- Experience with Windows and Linux operating systems
- Server 2019, Windows 10, Active Directory, RADIUS, NPS
- Debian / Ubuntu
- Good knowledge of Docker & Kubernetes
- Strong networking & security experience
- pfSense, Cisco, Juniper, FortiGate
- Experience with Google Cloud, G Suite & Office 365
- Project lifecycle, design & delivery
